As we settle into the rhythm of fall, the weeks ahead can quickly become full with work, school, parish life, and the many commitments that come with a new season. At the same time, fall brings opportunities to gather, reconnect, and grow in faith. Across the Archdiocese, young adults are coming together for prayer, fellowship, service, formation, and plenty of opportunities to meet new people and enjoy one another’s company. I hope this season offers you opportunities to find community, deepen your faith, and make space for what matters most

6 p.m., Church of Sts. Peter and Paul, Loretto
Young Adults are invited to explore the Lord of the Ring trilogy throughout the month of September. Come meet other young adults while enjoying the series. Feel free to bring blankets, snacks, and drinks to share.

Monday, September 21 - Young Professionals Men's Ministry Info Night
7-8:30 p.m., Our Lady of Grace, Edina
Cigars. Drinks. Bonfire. Talking men's ministry. What more does a night need?
Join for a night to celebrate brotherhood and learn more about the upcoming Young Professionals Men's Ministry.

Thursday, September 24 - Catholic Softball Group Mid-season BBQ
6:30 p.m., Pioneer Park, Little Canada
Join for a cookout of burgers and hot dogs to be enjoyed during the regularly scheduled softball games. All past/present/future players, friends, and family are all welcome to eat food and watch games! Free-will offering for non-players.

Friday, September, 25 - Sports Night
6:30 - 9 p.m., Rahn Park, Eagan
Come play ultimate frisbee and sand volleyball! Meet at the ballfields at the west end of the park. Afterwards, head over to a local restaurant for food and fellowship.

Friday, September 25 - Indoor Volleyball
7 - 9 p.m., St. Peter, Richfield
Join for an evening of volleyball! This event is free to attend, and afterwards the group goes out to a local restaurant for food and drinks. Enter through the door on the northside of the church to find the group.

Friday, September 25 - Game Night
6 - 11 p.m., Church of Sts. Peter and Paul, Loretto
Love boardgames, cards or other games? Join other young adults in the fun. You can bring your own games, snack and drinks to share.

Wednesday, September 30 - Men's YA Group
7 - 8:30 p.m., St Bonaventure, Bloomington
Vanguard is a young adult men’s group for men in their 20s and 30s. With rotating topics and leaders, you can partake in a different flavor every time! Meet in the St. Bonaventure youth room and cultivate discipleship in your daily life.

"Retreats aren’t only for those who need healing. (Though I think that describes most of us—who doesn’t need healing, at least to some degree?) A retreat is a wonderfully counter-cultural response to an increasingly noisy world. In the First Book of Kings, we read how the Lord was manifested not in the wind, the fire, or the earthquake but in “a light silent sound” (1 Kings 19:12). A retreat is an opportunity to seek silence and, in it, encounter our Lord who—as St. Teresa of Calcutta described—speaks “in the silence of the heart.”

I’m encouraged to hear that hundreds in our archdiocese are preparing to go on retreats this fall, including those who will be making our Damascus retreats (offered for Spanish-speaking men and women) and taking advantage of the offerings at our local Catholic retreat centers.

It might seem like an odd time to talk about finding silence, when fall activities are in full swing, and back-to-school routines are still being ironed out. But it’s precisely at times like these that those quiet moments are most necessary. I encourage you to consider exploring your own possibilities for finding some silence, including retreat options. Prioritize a place in your calendar this fall or winter at one of the beautiful retreat houses within our archdiocese or just a short drive beyond our boundaries. Even a mini retreat at your parish could be a blessing. I’m confident you will find your time to be well spent. As Sister Anita always told us in fifth grade: The Lord is never outdone when it comes to generosity."
